Service Technician
As a Service Technician, you will work on two major Rijkswaterstaat infrastructure projects in the Netherlands: Sluis Eefde and the Roertunnel Swalmen (A73). You will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and resolving faults in complex electrical and control systems within lock and tunnel installations. The role requires flexibility to work across both locations and offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the safety, reliability, and sustainability of critical Dutch infrastructure.

Our client plays a leading role in maintaining, upgrading, and modernising critical infrastructure across the Netherlands. Within long-term Rijkswaterstaat contracts, they are responsible for the availability, safety, and performance of essential assets such as locks and tunnels.
As a Service Technician, you will be active at two key infrastructure locations:
- Sluis Eefde – a vital logistical link between the Twentekanaal and the IJssel, featuring a newly constructed, energy-neutral second lock with modern electrotechnical installations and centralised control systems
- Roertunnel Swalmen (A73) – a heavily used motorway tunnel system in Limburg undergoing large-scale replacement, renovation, and maintenance of tunnel technical installations in line with the national tunnel standard
Across these locations, you will inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot complex electrical and control systems, ensuring safe, continuous, and compliant operation.
As an Electrical Service Technician, you will support the maintenance, renovation, and optimisation of electrotechnical and control installations. These include power distribution, lighting, control and monitoring systems, ventilation, pumping installations, and safety-critical tunnel and lock systems.
You will:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrotechnical installations, including electrical fault-finding and repairs
- Handle first-line fault resolution on site and coordinate second-line support when required
- Carry out measurements, inspections, and functional tests, and record findings in technical reports
- Commission and test electrotechnical components and systems within infrastructure installations
- Work on safety-critical systems in tunnels and water infrastructure
- Participate in scheduled on-call shifts, supporting 24/7 availability of critical infrastructure and mobility services
- Work independently and in small, multidisciplinary teams on long-term Rijkswaterstaat projects
- Be flexible in working across both project locations, based on operational and maintenance planning
What you bring
You are hands-on, reliable, and proactive, with the ability to work independently and solve problems under pressure. You enjoy teamwork and take pride in delivering high-quality, safe technical service.
To qualify for this role, you should have:
- A Red Seal Trade Certificate in certificate in electrical or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of NEN 1010 and NEN 3140 standards
- At least 2 years of experience in service or maintenance roles, preferably in infrastructure environments
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and overnight shifts when required
- Fluent in Afrikaans and English – and a good verbal communication in Dutch
