Secondary Engineer – Protection and Control Systems
As a Secondary Engineer, you’ll play a crucial role in designing and optimising the systems that protect and control medium- and high-voltage installations. From smart substations to complex upgrades, your work directly impacts the safety, stability, and intelligence of the Dutch power grid.
You’ll work in multidisciplinary teams from study through to delivery, translating client needs into reliable, future-ready technical designs. Whether you’re designing protection schemes, automation, or measurement systems, your work keeps the lights on — and the energy flowing.

- Base salary between €4.200 – €6.300 gross per month (based on experience)

Your Activities Include
- Translating client and utility requirements into smart, technical system designs
- Designing and optimising control, protection, and monitoring systems
- Drafting specifications and reviewing supplier quotations
- Advising clients and colleagues throughout the engineering process
- Contributing to innovation, digitalisation and automation in infrastructure design
- Collaborating closely with other disciplines including civil, mechanical, and high-voltage engineers
Who You Are
You are passionate about technology and thrive on delivering designs that meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and innovation. You’re structured, proactive, and committed to learning new systems and working in a team-oriented environment.
You bring:
- A completed Red Seal qualification, National Diploma, or BTech in Electrical Engineering (NQF Level 6 or higher)
- 3+ years of relevant experience in power systems or industrial automation
- Familiarity with secondary systems such as protection relays and SCADA (advantageous)
- Knowledge of or willingness to work in ATEX or high-voltage environments
- Valid driver’s license (Code B)
- Certification in Occupational Health & Safety (e.g., SACPCMP/CHS) or readiness to obtain it
